THE ROYAL HAMILTON LIGHT INFANTRY BAND
Sustaining Regimental identity through musical excellence since 1866.
The Regimental Band of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry (Wentworth Regiment) is an operational sub-unit within the regiment and the oldest enlisted band in Canada by lineage. Our role is to provide dedicated musical support to the RHLI to foster high morale and esprit de corps while enhancing community relations and instilling national pride. Comprised of specialized marching, concert, brass quintet, and jazz ensembles, our military musicians serve as ambassadors to make Canadians aware of the Canadian Armed Forces and its traditions.
Core Activities
MILITARY SUPPORT
The Band’s primary purpose is to provide musical support to the RHLI, Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces. This support includes providing music for military parades, events, and ceremonies. The band maintains high standards of drill and deportment to ensure these traditions are upheld with professional military decorum.
COMMUNITY EVENTS
The Band provides music services in support of national, provincial, and local governments, as well as public relations and recruiting activities. This includes performances at international and local Tattoos, Canada Day celebrations, street parades, and concerts in the park. These engagements afford the CAF the opportunity to connect with Canadians and foster relationships within the community.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
Members of the Band are Military Musicians serving within the Primary Reserve. Musicians in the CAF are soldiers first. The band’s personnel undergo standard military and musical training to provide quality military music support to CAF. This commitment ensures that every member meets the high standards of discipline and proficiency required for operational service.
